The EEL

The EEL is an anti-gentrification zine. Its origins are explained in their website:

“The EEL as started in 2005 by Tony Collins and Adam Wright originally as a fanzine for Broadway Market in Hackney. It tried to highlight some of the disappearing aspects of East End life as regeneration took hold. Irreverant and witty it has highlighted many of the social and political changes within the are particularly the fight to save the livelihoods of local Broadway Market shopkeepers. We were also supportive of groups such as Open Dalston and the campaign to save Manor Garden Allotments as part of our Olympic Watch series.

The EEL has always encouraged contributions from writers and artists as well as interviewing local characters. (…) In recent issues we have focussed on specific parts of Hackney and East London including Dalston, Clapton and Hackney Wick.”

We hold issues 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14, as well as the zine Splitting the atom in Dalston Lane also published by The EEL collective: Library Catalogue.
